Original Species Rant

So this has been on my mind for a while, and seeing all these poorly thought out 'original' species, I need to rant about this topic.
When it comes to making an original species, it has to be original, hence the name. You can't take a dog/cat/wolf/dragon/lizard/bird and put random animal prints on them or elements or food.
If you're going to bother making an original species, give it a decent, well thought out back story, and make it look original. Don't make it a cat with goo on it, or a dog with food on it. Make it something that's never been thought of before, make it something that's not even from Earth, don't make it related to dogs/ca
